Film Locations in Potsdam

Take a tour through the city to see how it has been used in the film industry for more than a century.

Potsdam has a long-standing, national and international cinematic tradition. The oldest large-scale film studio in the world and the biggest film studio in Europe are located in the studios of Potsdam Babelsberg: Germanys film location number one.

Filmmakers from all over the world come to the fascinating city to shoot blockbusters like „Grand Budapest Hotel“ and „Inglorious Basterds”. Not only do they find a great infrastructure at Studio Babelsberg. Also the city centre of Potsdam offers perfect sceneries for filmmakers. For example, the Dutch Quarter with its 134 red brick houses was the setting for the Amsterdam-scenes in the famous TV series “Homeland”.
Also, Potsdam’s history offers exciting stories itself to be mentioned or themed in movies. A perfect example is the film “Bridge of Spies” with Tom Hanks which tells the story of the first agent exchange that took place here between the Soviet Union and the United States in 1962 on Glienicke Bridge.
