Become a mermaid

If you were to read Homer’s immortal poem, The Odyssey, you might think that the mermaids of the Mediterranean were dangerous sirens, trying to draw sailors to their deaths. These days, though, the mythological creatures love nothing more than to play in the water with visitors.
At the Sirenas Mediterranean Academy, you have the opportunity to become a mermaid (or merman) yourself! Get dressed up, go for a swim, perform routines and play games. As well as having a lot of fun, participants will learn about the sea and health.
The project was founded by Susana Seuma and Alejandro Rodríguez. It all started because Susana, who had been a huge scuba diving and sea enthusiast, was forced to give up her passion for three years because of a car accident. The mermaid academy was a way to still connect with the water and bring happiness to others.
The academy provides two different levels: the ‘baptism’ and the ‘advance’ level, which varies depending on the students experience and the difficulty of the exercises. It can take place in open areas, like beaches and lakes, but also public and private swimming pools.
