Bishop's Guard Tour
For a unique way to see more of Kroměříž and step back into history, take a tour of the town with the Bishop's Guard dressed in historic uniforms!
The Bishop's Guard—a historical military group from Kroměříž—got together in 1990 with the aim of simulating the armed unit that once fulfilled one of the key roles in Moravia—guarding the bishop, and with him, the entire province.
The core of the current group represents a unit from the period of the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), consisting of musketeers, pikeneers, and warriors carrying round shields. Other units were formed in 2014, including the bishop's guard of Charles II von Liechtenstein-Castelcorno from the second half of the 17th century, and the archbishop's princely guard from the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Women soldiers also participate.
The soldiers will be able to tell you about the history of Kroměříž and show you some of the highlights of the town—a wonderful way to get to know the story of the region.
