Chabaud-Latour
You will be enchanted by the Chabaud-Latour mining site, reclaimed and converted into a recreational area in the 1990s. The silhouette of the head frame of the Ledoux pit is the only hint of the former existence of an enormous mining complex.
Never judge by appearances, though. Here, almost everything is the result of mining: the head frames, spoil heaps, and even the ponds! The underground mining activity has weakened the ground and altered the hydrography of the area, leading to subsidence and giving rise to ponds across hundreds of hectares.
Take a stroll along the banks and be charmed by the magnificent views. The area has attracted a multitude of birds that stop here during their migration or have chosen to live here all year round.
In 1996, the site won the 'Public Money Tree' prize, awarded to the most beautiful landscapes of France.
