This part of the cellar was dug in the 19th century, in order to link the separate passages together.

Dereszla Winery

You'll find Chateau Dereszla Winery in the centre of the Tokaj region. When you look around, you'll see 30 hectares of grapes in 30 different vineyards. If you stay, you can taste the best blends and gain insight into the making of the finest wines of Tokaj.

During your journey through the Dereszla cellars, you'll learn about Tokaj’s history, as this cellar is one of the oldest ones in the region. You'll see old wall carvings from the beginning of the 15th century. Walk through the cellars and travel through ages of different owners, kings, princes, barons, the Habsburg Monarchy, Jewish merchants and so on. Follow the footprints of the past few hundred years. You'll see the special Tokaj-style winding coherent cellar system that lies deep under the Dereszla vineyard. The latest passage was built in 2011, so you can see the move from tradition to innovation. The 1 km long cellar system is essential to produce the world famous Tokaji Aszú.

In the cellar, you'll see the whole process of winemaking. You'll see 1,000 barrels and 500,000 bottles laid down for aging. In the building you'll notice a cannonball on the wall, which was shot during the 1848 Revolution and War of Hungarian Independence.

In the Henye Winery, which belongs to the Dereszla Winery, you can enjoy cultural events every Saturday, including concerts and theatre plays.
