Flying at Arachnaio

The mountains over the bay of Ancient Epidaurus have a number of excellent spots from which to glide over the coast and they are all located very near the port. The thermodynamics are great, making for an excellent and safe flight. The best time to go paragliding is in late summer, towards mid-August, when temperatures and northerly winds tend to be more moderate. There are launching areas on the mountains of Akros and Arachnaio, which can be reached from Epidaurus, while the landings are held on the soft sand of one of the beaches near Ancient Epidaurus.
You will find various flight spots: Tintin is ideal for ridge soaring; Ted’s Café is perfect for beginners (steady thermals for training); Blacky is easy to reach and the flights normally reach an altitude of 2,000 metres with thermals of 6-7 metres per second, and Peter’s Paradise offers a typical thermal with a flight over one of the most legendary panoramas of Greece, while it also marks the start of a 60-kilmoters cross-country paragliding route. The views you will take in during your airborne tour are sure to be memorable as you soar over mythic landscapes – like the flight of Phaethon, but with a much better ending of course.
