Frederiksborg Castle

In Hillerød, experience the Renaissance Frederiksborg Castle, constructed by the Danish King Christian IV. The castle has housed the Museum of National History since 1878, when it was established by brewer J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of the world-famous Carlsberg Breweries.

A true work of art, when you visit the Frederiksborg Castle, which was opened in the 17th century, you'll find beautifully decorated rooms with portraits, history paintings, furniture, and decorative art that invite you on a journey through Danish history and culture from the late Middle Ages to the present. The historical interiors and the rooms give an impression of the changing styles and epochs.

Outside, visitors will find the meticulously maintained Baroque Castle Garden, which consists of three main terraces with cascading fountains and small ponds supplied by two large reservoirs above the Baroque garden.

The strict Baroque Garden was restored in 1996 from plans made in 1725. It consists of beautiful, symmetric box hedges and trimmed trees on all levels. The lower level is dominated by four royal monograms set in box hedges. The newest is the Queen's monogram.
