Furmint Festival

Come and see why this variety of grape is so special that it has a whole festival named after it.

When you’re visiting the Tokaj wine region, it’s worth spending some time in the beautiful village of Mád, which has one of the largest collections of vineyards. And, when you start to investigate further, you’ll find that about 80 per cent of the grapes here are the Furmint varietal.

Nowhere else in the world can you find a higher concentration of Furmint grapes and the locals are very proud of this fact. To celebrate, they have created the annual Furmint Festival.

The aim of the festival is to introduce the high-quality wines to more people, surrounded by the local environment. However, this event is not just about wines, but also locally-produced food like cheese, jam, and syrups. You’ll be able to find the best restaurants in the Hungarian countryside here.

There is a large cultural program as well, and the Harvest Parade is organised at the same time of the year. You’ll be able to see the folk professions from a long time ago, and you can see the Hungarian folk dance and join in until late in the night at the outdoor concerts.
