Hike the Trails of Sintra

The trails lead you through the forests to unforgettable monuments, on a journey through time.

Whether you are an avid hiker or someone who wants to capture the beauty that nature offers, you will enjoy the trails, the vistas, and the mystery of Sintra. So lace up your hiking boots and accept this challenge!

Santa Maria Trail
This hiking trail ascends to two of the most remarkable monuments of Sintra, the Moorish Castle and the Park and Palace of Pena, offering spectacular panoramic views. The trail follows mainly paved paths through the forest, with a gentle gradient and occasional abrupt slopes. It is suitable for all ages and requires an average level of fitness.

Lapa Trail
This trail leads directly to the main entrance of the Park of Pena from the Info Parques de Sintra Centre. It is a forest path with a gentle gradient punctuated by some short steep slopes. It is suitable for all ages and requires an average state of fitness. This path is a good alternative to return to the starting point after having hiked on the Santa Maria trail to visit the Moorish Castle and the Park and Palace of Pena.

Seteais Trail
This trail begins in front of the Palace of Seteais and ascends to the Park and Palace of Pena and the Moorish Castle mainly through forested paths. It uses part of the PR4 hiking trail, which includes a stretch of one of the most beautiful roads of Sintra, and then continues through a forest trail that offers magnificent vistas over the slope of the hill overlooking the historical centre. It is suitable for adults in a generally good state of fitness, since part of the route presents rough terrains with steep gradients.
