Music Festival Potsdam Sanssouci

Every year in June, music and opera make Potsdam's palaces and gardens come alive.

Since its inception from an East-Western German youth gathering in 1954, the Music Festival Potsdam Sanssouci has become one of Germany's premier festivals for early music.

Special formats such as promenading concerts, musical walks, picnic concerts or the bicycle concert present special ways to experience the historical venues.

The Music Festival is also committed to historically-informed performances: apart from the crème de la crème of early music, the most exciting young European ensembles always visit and present their innovative concepts.

There is a great variety of styles and eras as part of the programme. It always features not only early music but also both Classical and Romantic pieces as well as contemporary music.

The closing Sanssouci Prom Concert with fireworks has become a tradition. There are also special opera performances, with annual in-house as well as international co-productions.
