Nivaagaard
The Nivaagaard Collection contains many masterpieces from the 16th and 17th century, mainly from the Italian Renaissance and Dutch Baroque period. The museum's works include Rembrandt’s "Portrait of a 39-year-Old Woman," as well as a fine collection of Danish paintings from the 19th century. In addition, the museum presents two to three special exhibitions each year, often featuring contemporary or modern art.
After a nice meal or a coffee in the café, you can take a stroll in the old romantic English-inspired rhododendron garden, where you will experience an impressive collection of more than 800 varieties of plants. In the spring, from late April until June, you will see an ocean of colours from the blooming flowers.
The small ponds, old trees, flowers, and abundant plant life provide an ideal habitat for the many birds that visit the countryside around the museum—attracting ornithologists, who walk through the garden and down to the coast of Nivå for the bird sanctuary.
