Scriptorial of Avranches - Manuscript Museum of Mont Saint-Michel
Explore the doors of the museum..., meet the copyist monks and discover the secrets of making manuscripts, carefully guarded for centuries. From Egyptian papyrus to digital books to printed books... Turn the pages of time and sign for a unique experience.
Written inside medieval fortifications while affirming a resolutely contemporary architecture, the museum was conceived as a true metaphor of Mont Saint-Michel. Thanks to the natural inclination of the terrain, leave for a true ascent of the mountain and its wonders. All these elements, combined with the originality of the museography, encourage visitors to immerse themselves in this enigmatic and eminently rich world of book history.
The Scriptorial museography places the manuscripts of Mont Saint-Michel in their historical and local context according to a chronological and thematic itinerary, culminating in the discovery of the original manuscripts presented in the heart of the building known as the Treasure. Each room is identified graphically by a succession of colours. Texts and works accompany the visitor in his initiation: on the one hand, display windows display the collections, models, interspersed with multimedia terminals, and on the other hand, a large frieze carries texts, iconographic documents and film projections.
