The tragedy of 1956

262 miners lost their lives in the 1956 catastrophe at Bois du Cazier. In this video, one of the orphans of the catastrophe reflects on how she lost five members of her family, including her father.

In the aftermath of the disaster, mining safety regulations were revised all across Europe and a new Mines Safety Commission and regulations were established.
