Tulip picnic on Red Hill
UNESCO recognized the Western Tien-Shan mountains due to their eclectic biodiversity. Yet, the most prominent feature in the mountainous areas is the tulip. The birthplace of the tulip traces its lineage to these Silk Road mountains. Take the time to have a picnic amongst the spring bloom.
The Red Hill is world-renowned for its Greig Tulips. From April to early May, there are upwards of 60 tulips per one square meter. Pack a lunch, and spend the day enjoying the sights and smells. There is a stalactite cave with an underground lake nearby and it is a perfect way complete your day trip.
Along the mountain ridges there are a wide range of plants exhibiting colors of white, yellow, red, pink, and orange. Hikers can view these on the Kuyuk Pass or move on to the Karatau Mountains which display many ornate flowers from the region.
