Upper Harz Mining Museum from 1892

Germany's oldest technical and mining museum is located in the Harz Mountains in the university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. This splendid space shows the working and living environment of a population that lived from silver-ore mining for centuries.

The main museum for the cultural history of the Upper Harz's seven free mountain towns has original mining facilities, a show mine, and open-air exhibitions. The space presents an excellent collection of historical technology models from the mountain school and mining academy (today called TU Clausthal), miner's crafts, show silver, coins, and minerals. The mining museum includes the World Heritage monuments from Ottiliaeschacht, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Rosenhöfer Radstuben, Dorotheer Rösche, and Caroliner Wetterschacht.

The museum is the ideal gateway to the Upper Harz water industry and a central contact point for guided tours through the Upper Harz part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
