Valtice Castle
Originally a Gothic castle founded in the 12th century by the bishops of Passau, in 1530 Valtice became a place of residence of the princely family of Liechtenstein, one of the wealthiest familes in Europe. A number of important architects of the 17th and 18th centuries gave it its current form, including Anton Ospel, Anton Erhard Martinelli and Antonio Beduzzi.
In 1996, the castle and the castle park were listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site.
Besides the main sightseeing tours, you can visit many of the seasonal exhibitions, the castle chapel, the winter riding hall and other temporary and seasonal attractions in the castle. Various cultural events, wine festivals, concerts and performances, and Baroque festivals take place here.
