The Almaty Nature Reserve
In-between Almaty and Talgar, the Tien-Shan mountains are full of natural wonders. The Almaty Nature Reserve is a place where you can disconnect from the outside world. With diversified landscapes that include powerful rivers, glaciers, crystal-blue lakes, steppes, and forests, the reserve is one of the best-kept secrets of Kazakhstan.
These unique and varied landscapes are home to some wildlife and plant species. It is estimated that 200 birds, about 40 species of mammals, a few reptiles and thousands of insects cohabit in these natural lands. And among those, about 50 wildlife and plant species are enlisted in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. This red book gathers some of the rarest and most endangered species that live in Kazakhstan. Consequently, Almaty Nature Reserve is a sanctuary for species like the snow leopards, deer or eagles that can live in a well-protected reserve.
The goal of this reserve is to protect the natural heritage of Kazakhstan, from the landscapes to the plant and wildlife populations. As a result, visiting the Almaty Nature Reserve is a chance to support local initiatives for the protection of the environment while exploring incredible landscapes.
